Panasonic Q

GameCube variant with a DVD player, made by Panasonic and sold only in Japan between 2001 and 2003.

The Panasonic Q is a hybrid GameCube with a DVD player. It grew out of the deal under which Panasonic, then Matsushita, developed the console's optical drive, which included a licence to build a DVD player able to run GameCube games. Panasonic announced it on October 19, 2001, and released it only in Japan that December, at ¥39,800. It reads CDs, DVDs and GameCube discs, although the game and video modes are barely integrated.

Its stainless steel case was completely redesigned, with a DVD-sized front tray, a backlit LCD screen with playback controls and a carrying handle like the GameCube's. At the back it offers RCA, S-Video and digital audio outputs. It supports GameCube peripherals, but its feet prevent the standard Game Boy Player from being fitted, so a special version was released for it. Sales were low, and Panasonic announced its discontinuation on December 18, 2003.
