Master System II

Cheaper 1990 redesign without the Sega Card slot, reset button or expansion port; it does not support the 3D glasses.

Sega released the Master System II in 1990 in North America, Australasia and Europe as a lower-cost model. To cut costs it dropped the Sega Card slot, reset button, power light, expansion port and the startup music and logo. Without the card slot it also cannot use the SegaScope 3-D glasses, which plugged into it.

In most regions it also lost the A/V output, leaving only RF; France was the reverse, with a local version that had only A/V output. It sold poorly in North America despite Sega's promotion, but it did well in Europe and helped the company hold its market share. In South Korea, Samsung sold it in 1992 under the name Aladdin Boy.
