History of Eurocom Entertainment Software

Eurocom Entertainment Software was founded in October 1988 in Derby, England. Its five founders, Mat Sneap, Chris Shrigley, Hugh Binns, Tim Rogers and Neil Baldwin, set it up to make games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Its early titles included Magician and James Bond Jr. (1991), and it soon branched out to the Mega Drive, handhelds and the major home consoles.

In the 1990s it made its name porting arcade games to consoles, such as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1996), Mortal Kombat 4 (1998) and Hydro Thunder (1999), and with licensed games such as Duke Nukem 64 (1997) and Tarzan (1999). It also created original games like Machine Hunter (1997) and 40 Winks (1999). In 2000 Universal Interactive commissioned Crash Bash from the studio, the last Crash Bandicoot game released on PlayStation.

In the 2000s it worked mostly on film and James Bond licences: James Bond 007: Nightfire (2002), Batman Begins (2005) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007). It also released Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy (2003), another original creation, and Spyro: A Hero's Tail (2004). It was renamed Eurocom Ltd. in 2006, and in 2010 it released GoldenEye 007 for Wii with Activision.

Its last games were Harry Potter for Kinect and 007 Legends, published by Activision, both in 2012. On 23 November that year it laid off most of its staff and said the rest would focus on mobile games, but on 6 December 2012 it closed for good. The company blamed the closure on a steep fall in sales of console and PC games.
