Haemimont Games

Haemimont Games is a Bulgarian developer based in Sofia, founded by Gabriel Dobrev in September 1997. Before it turned to games, its business was software outsourcing. It was part of the IT company Haemimont-Smartcom and in 2002 became part of Haemimont AD, whose co-founder Ludmil Pandeff took over as managing director. In 2003 it became an independent company, with Dobrev, a former Haemimont employee, as chief executive.

Its focus has been strategy, city-building and ancient history. It made its debut with the real-time strategy game Tzar: The Burden of the Crown (2000), followed by Celtic Kings: Rage of War (2002), Nemesis of the Roman Empire (2004) and Imperivm III: The Great Battles of Rome (2005). It then moved into city-building with Glory of the Roman Empire (2006), Imperium Romanum (2008) and Grand Ages: Rome (2009), all for Windows.

In 2009 it developed the construction and management game Tropico 3, also released on Xbox 360, and went on to make Tropico 4 (2011) and Tropico 5 (2014). It tried role-playing with The First Templar (2011) and Victor Vran (2015), and turn-based strategy with Omerta – City of Gangsters (2013). Surviving Mars (2018), Stranded: Alien Dawn and Jagged Alliance 3 (both 2023) came next. Paradox Interactive bought the studio in February 2025, the year Surviving Mars: Relaunched was released.
