History of Milestone
Antonio Farina founded the studio in Milan in 1994 under the name Graffiti. Its first games were Super Loopz (1994) for the Super Nintendo, Iron Assault and Screamer (1995), a PC racing game that was its first notable release. In 1996 it was renamed Milestone and used the success of Screamer to sign publishing deals with Virgin Interactive and Electronic Arts.
Virgin published Screamer 2 (1996) and Screamer Rally (1997), and with EA it made three Superbike World Championship games starting in 1999. Racing Evoluzione (2003), published by Atari with little marketing, sold poorly and led key figures to leave. The studio had joined Leader Group in late 2002, and with a younger team it released Super-Bikes Riding Challenge (2006), the game that defined it as a motorcycle racing specialist.
More Superbike games followed, along with support work on Capcom's MotoGP games and, from 2010, the WRC series. It left Leader Group in 2011 and, after poor results in 2012, stopped doing work-for-hire to publish its own games. In 2013 it won the MotoGP licence and released MotoGP 13; that success brought further licences such as FIM Motocross and Monster Energy Supercross.
On 14 August 2019 Koch Media bought Milestone and all of its intellectual property, with chief executive Luisa Bixio staying on. Today it is part of Plaion and still based in Milan. Beyond motorbikes it made Hot Wheels Unleashed (2021), and in 2026 it has released Ride 6, MotoGP 26, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush and a new Screamer.
