Turn 10 Studios

Microsoft set up Turn 10 Studios in 2001 within Microsoft Game Studios (now Xbox Game Studios) to make a series of racing games for Xbox that would become Forza. It was based in Redmond, Washington, and headed by Alan Hartman. When it was founded, most of its staff had experience publishing games such as Project Gotham Racing and Golf 4.0, but had never developed one.

The first Forza Motorsport came out on Xbox in 2005, and from then on the studio released a new entry every two years: Forza Motorsport 2 (2007), 3 (2009) and 4 (2011) on Xbox 360, Forza Motorsport 5 (2013) and 6 (2015) on Xbox One, and Forza Motorsport 7 (2017), also on Windows. It worked with its own engine, ForzaTech, and its own editor, Fuel, which let several artists build cars and tracks at the same time.

In 2019 it announced there would be no new entry that year, and in 2023 it released Forza Motorsport, a reboot of the series and its last solo game; that year Hartman became head of Xbox Game Studios. In July 2025 it was hit by a company-wide round of Microsoft layoffs, and support for Forza Motorsport ended that year so the team could help on Forza Horizon 6, released in May 2026. In September 2026 Microsoft announced that Turn 10 and Playground Games would be combined into a single studio focused on Forza and Fable.
