History of Ubisoft Québec

Ubisoft announced in April 2005 that it would open a studio in Quebec City, Canada, and Ubisoft Québec formally opened on 27 June that year. Its founders were Nicolas Rioux, who became general manager, and Andrée Cossette. Its early work was varied: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Critical Hour (2006) for Xbox, handheld adaptations such as Open Season (2006) and the Battle of Giants series for Nintendo DS. In 2008 it also set up a computer-generated imagery unit, which closed in 2011 when Ubisoft Motion Pictures was founded.

In March 2010 Ubisoft bought Longtail Studios' Quebec City studio and merged it into Ubisoft Québec. That year the studio made Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands for PSP and Wii. In September 2013 Ubisoft announced a seven-year investment plan to grow the studio, and in 2014 the studio announced a move to new offices in the Saint-Roch neighbourhood. That building, known as UbiNord, opened in April 2019.

After making expansions for Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, it became the first Ubisoft studio outside Ubisoft Montreal to lead a mainline entry in the series: Assassin's Creed Syndicate (2015). Assassin's Creed Odyssey (2018) and Immortals Fenyx Rising (2020) followed. In November 2017 Rioux became vice president of technology for Ubisoft's Canadian studios and Patrick Klaus took over; Mike Laidlaw, formerly of BioWare, was its creative director from December 2018 to February 2020.

Andrée Cossette replaced Klaus as managing director in November 2019 and left in July 2020. Its latest major release is Assassin's Creed Shadows (2025). The studio has also moved into mobile: with Ubisoft Montreal it is behind Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Mobile (2026), the Android and iOS take on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, announced on 5 April 2022. It remains a Ubisoft studio based in Quebec City.
