PS one

Smaller, redesigned PlayStation released in July 2000, without serial or parallel ports and with an external power supply.

On July 7, 2000, Sony released the PS one, a redesigned and much smaller PlayStation: 38 × 193 × 144 mm against 45 × 260 × 185 mm. It uses essentially the same hardware as the SCPH-9000, but moves the controller and memory card ports onto the main board, drops the parallel and serial ports and swaps the internal power supply for an external 7.5 V adapter. The power button doubles as reset with a quick double press. It runs all PlayStation software, though not every peripheral works.

It ended 2000 as the best-selling console, ahead even of the PS2. A later revision with the PM-41(2) board cut costs again by moving the RAM on-chip. On September 19, 2000, Sony released a 5-inch LCD screen (SCPH-131) that attaches to the console, and on January 2, 2002, sold the two together as the Combo pack, with a car lighter adapter; the screen went out of production in 2004. The PS one launched in India on January 24, 2002.
