PlayStation 3 Slim
2009 redesign that is 33% smaller and 36% lighter, with lower power use, HDMI-CEC and 120 to 320 GB drives.
Sony unveiled the PS3 Slim (CECH-2000) on August 18, 2009, at its Gamescom press conference. It is 33% smaller and 36% lighter than the previous model and uses 34% to 45% less power depending on the revision. The Cell moved to 45 nm and, after the first revision, the RSX to 40 nm, with a redesigned and quieter cooling system. It drops the main power switch and the option to install another operating system, cannot run PS2 games, and adds TV-remote control over HDMI-CEC.
It launched on September 1, 2009, in North America and Europe at $299 and €299, and on September 3 in Japan, Australia and New Zealand, with 120 GB. With it Sony changed the logo to "PS3". Japan received a white and pink Final Fantasy XIII version. The 160 GB and 320 GB models followed in July 2010; in the West the 320 GB unit was sold in PlayStation Move bundles. PC World scored it 90 out of 100 for its quietness and lower power draw, while CNET regretted the missing PS2 compatibility.
