PlayStation 3 Super Slim
The final PS3 redesign (2012), smaller and lighter than the Slim, with a sliding disc cover and 12 GB flash, 250 GB and 500 GB versions.
Sony announced the PS3 Super Slim (CECH-4000) in September 2012 and it reached stores that autumn: the 250 GB model launched in North America on September 25 and the 500 GB model in Europe on September 28. It is smaller and lighter than the Slim, uses less power and replaces the slot-loading drive with a sliding top cover. In PAL regions the 250 GB model was replaced by one with 12 GB of flash memory, which accepts a separately sold 250 GB hard drive.
Reviewers praised its quietness, its size and how easy it is to swap the hard drive, but CNET found the sliding cover cheap and called it a step back. In 2013 the nearly identical CECH-4200 revision appeared to meet the AACS rule that, from 2014, blocks Blu-ray content on analog outputs. The Super Slim was the last PS3 design: production ended in Europe in March 2016, in North America in October 2016 and in Japan on May 29, 2017.
