PlayStation 4 Slim
2016 revision that is 40% smaller, with a matte finish, USB 3.1, 5 GHz Wi-Fi and no optical audio port; it replaced the original PS4.
On September 7, 2016, Sony announced a PS4 hardware revision with model number CUH-2000, commonly called the PS4 Slim, which phased out the original model. It is 40% smaller, with a rounded body and a matte top instead of the two-tone finish. The two front USB ports move to USB 3.1 and are spaced further apart, the optical audio port is gone, and Bluetooth 4.0 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi are added. It uses less power than the original, so it runs cooler and quieter.
It went on sale on September 15, 2016, with 500 GB of storage at the same price as the original PS4. On April 18, 2017, Sony replaced that base model with a 1 TB version at the same price. After the PS5 launched, on January 5, 2021, Sony stopped producing every PS4 model in Japan except the 500 GB Slim. PS4 distribution in Japan ended on March 28, 2024.
