Nintendo Switch Lite

Handheld-only 2019 version with built-in controls, a 5.5-inch screen and a D-pad. It cannot be connected to a TV.

Nintendo announced the Switch Lite in July 2019 and released it on September 20 at US$199.99, in yellow, grey and turquoise, alongside the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. It is a handheld-only version: the controls are built into the body, the screen measures 5.5 inches and a D-pad replaces the four directional buttons. It uses the more efficient Tegra X1+ chip, so despite a smaller battery its estimated play time rises to 3 to 7 hours.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Nintendo wanted a sub-$200 console for casual players and negotiated lower prices with suppliers. It has no dock or TV output, so it only runs games that support handheld mode; titles that use HD Rumble or the infrared camera need separate Joy-Con. It keeps the gyroscope, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC, and has 32 GB of storage like the original model. Shuntaro Furukawa said about 30% of its buyers already owned a Switch.
