Wii Family Edition
Cost-reduced 2011 revision without GameCube ports or slots, designed to sit horizontally.
The RVL-101 is a cheaper Wii that drops the GameCube controller ports and memory card slots, so it cannot play GameCube games or use the GameCube controller. It ships without a vertical stand, as it is meant to lie flat. It is known as the "Wii Family Edition", the name of the bundle it launched in across Europe. Nintendo announced it in August 2011 to replace the original model in regions including Europe and the United States, in a bundle priced at US$149.99.
It debuted in North America on October 23, 2011, in black, with a black Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack. Europe got it on November 4 in white, with Wii Party and Wii Sports. On November 18 a blue version with Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games reached Europe. In October 2012 the North American bundle swapped the game and soundtrack for Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.
