PSP-3000

2008 revision with a screen offering wider color, higher contrast and anti-glare treatment, plus a built-in microphone and PS button.

The PSP-3000 launched on October 14, 2008, in North America, the 16th in Japan, the 17th in Europe and the 23rd in Australia. Some markets sold it as the PSP Slim & Lite or PSP Brite because of its new screen: a wider color range, five times the contrast, half the pixel response time and anti-reflective treatment for outdoor play. It adds a microphone, swaps the Home button for a PS button and can output games in standard definition over the video cable.

At release the screen drew criticism for faint horizontal lines visible with moving objects, caused by the blue sub-pixels; Sony said the issue was inherent to the hardware and would not be fixed. A Sony executive first said the new screen cut battery life by about 20 minutes and later retracted the claim. The model added protections that blocked permanent custom firmware installs. One outlet called it a minor upgrade.
