PlayChoice-10
1986 arcade unit that let players try up to ten NES games on a timer. It succeeded the VS. System.
The successor to the VS. System, released in August 1986 to showcase NES games in arcades while keeping that revenue. It let players try up to ten games, one at a time, with play time bought by coins; the first were Baseball, Tennis, Golf, Excitebike, Wild Gunman, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley and Balloon Fight. It came in single- and dual-screen cabinets, a "cabaret" variant outside the US, and a countertop version.
Games came on circuit boards with ROM chips and differed slightly from the console versions, for instance with built-in instructions. In dual-screen cabinets, the top screen showed the menu and instructions. Conversion kits were offered, including a five-game PlayChoice-5. It was popular in British pubs. 53 games have been confirmed, and on July 31, 1992, Nintendo announced it was leaving the arcade business because it was no longer profitable.
